Hiya,

I use a texture fill called Solar Flares 2.

Then I change the bottom left and right and the top left and right colours to black. If the marble has a slight colour in it, I change the low energy colour to it and leave the other white.

Then I click through the previews until I find one that I like.

In the Options, I use a rendering resolution of 300 with the max selected for tile width. In Tiling I choose a rotation of 10 degrees and a skew of 25 to stop the pattern looking too repeated and adjust the size of the tile until I'm happy.

Hope that helps.

1. Illustrator has a Metallic PMS color swatch set. Look through Illustrator's help file on how to load the Metallic Swatches.

2. google --> illustrator: gel tutorial
gel is like plastic toothpaste. it has transparent qualities. the gold sheen, on the other hand, would not. The metal would have layering like it takes with the gel. Metal is high contrast without transparency.
