how to convert idx file to srt file

Sometimes you have that problem that the whole subtitle appears as one picture and you have to type it in manually. Can't be helped. You can play around with the colours but the automatic mode is usually pretty good. You can also change the settings in the oCR options but if you don't know what you're doing, chances are that it gets worse than before,.
I find the later versions of subrip problematic. I am using v.1.20 or something. imo they work much better than the newer beta versions.
You could also try subresync which is part of the vobsun package. It doesn't save a character matrix though, so you have to enter all the letters each time you use it. Answered Jul, 03 2011

Your best bet would be to try and find an .srt file to use instead of your .idx/.sub files.
Or you could use PC tools to convert .idx/.sub to .srt.

SubRip is a program which allows you to rip DVD subtitles with their timing as a text file. Can also convert vobsub(sub and idx) to srt text subtitles(vobsub to srt / sub to srt / subtosrt / sub2srt ). Subrip 1.4+ can also rip subs from avi with burned in/hardcoded/permanent subtitles.

A nice solution is using DVDLab for authoring. Doing Project___Project properties you set the TV system (either PAL or NTSC) then you select a template (like Simple (movie only)) , then load the video (M2V) , the audio (MP2 or AC3) ; finally you click on the 'Sub' box, it opens a window which can import four text subtitle types (*.sub;*.srt;*.ssa;*.son;*.sst) . You choose the font type and color , you press the 'generate subtitle stream' key and in few minutes it'll turn SRT (and all others formats) --> .SP1. Answered Dec, 12 2010
