Go to folder where gtalk is installed ("C:\Program Files\Google\Google Talk") and right click on googletalk.exe, choose Properties from the context menu.
Select the Compatibility tab.
Check the check box "Run this program in compatibility mode for:".
From drop down list choose Windows Vista (Service Pack 2).
Click Apply and OK.
Now gtalk will be minimized to hidden icons in task bar when you click on X. Answered Dec, 10 2010
