1.Click the "Show Ruler" button on the right side of the program's main window, above the vertical scroll bar.

2.Click "File" and click "Options." Click "Advanced" and scroll to the "Display" section.

3.Click the "Show Measurements in Units Of" drop-down box and select a unit of measure.

4.Click "OK," and your rulers will be updated with your chosen unit of measure. Answered Aug, 03 2011

Running across the top of the page , use the "View Ruler" button on the side of the program or the option in the Ribbon. Answered Aug, 03 2011

Tools | Options | View: Vertical ruler.

And make sure Ruler is checked on the View menu.
