There's a detailed tutorial here: How to Change dress pattern in Photoshop.

Thought it use Adobe Photoshop CS4 to change dress pattern, I think it applies to Adboe Photoshop CS2 also.

Hello,I will introduce an example for you to make that:
You should press (Ctrl + u) in the little drop down menu above the sliders, this can change the original color to red.
Then please move the HUE slide to change red to pink, blue, green ,yellow and so on. Answered Jan, 22 2011

1.In Photoshop CS4, prepare a photo and a pattern picture. 2. Open the two files and the drag the pattern picture into the photo. Adjust the position of the pattern picture to cover the dress as bellow. Then hide the pattern layer. 3. Draw the outline of the dress by Pen Tool and then right click to select Make Selection in the list.. 4.Unhide the pattern layer. 5.Press ctrl+shift+I to reverse the select and then press delete key to delete the superfluous pattern. 6.Set the Blending mode of the pattern layer to Multiply. 7.That's the result of changing dress pattern.
