Windows system information is very limited when it comes to hardware. Download Belarc Advisor it's free and will give you a wealth of information about your system

No doubt that the easiest way to identify your Motherboard model is by reading the information printed on the retail box or the User Manual (aka “motherboard book”). However if you can’t get hold of those information, one can take the “brute force” way by opening up your CPU to find the name or an abbreviation thereof silk-screened on the motherboard/on the side of the last expansion board slot to the left of the motherboard.

Anyway, if you don’t intend to open your CPU, there is a much simpler way to identify your Motherboard model.

From the terminal type this command:

sudo dmidecode | moreDmidecode reports information about your system’s hardware as described in your system BIOS according to the SMBIOS/DMI standard. The typical information includes system manufacturer, model name, serial number, BIOS version, asset tag as well as a lot of other details of varying level of interest and reliability depending on the manufacturer. This will often include usage status for the CPU sockets, expansion slots (e.g. AGP, PCI, ISA) and memory module slots, and the list of I/O ports (e.g. serial, parallel, USB).

hope it can help u.... Answered May, 05 2011
