 Winamp Detector Plug-in

Browser plugins for participating websites (winamp.com, shoutcast.com, spinner.com, music.aol.com, etc) to detect Winamp presence and version and deliver appropriate content (eg. for knowing whether your version of Winamp supports the winamp:// protocol from v5.57 and above).

1. Mozilla Firefox plugin
Filename: %ProgramFiles%\Mozilla Firefox\components\npwachk.xpt

2. Windows Internet Explorer plugin
Filename: %ProgramFiles%\Winamp Detect\iewachk.dll

The "application detector" lets websites (well, really probably only winamp.com) know if Winamp is installed. We also added "winamp://" links to perform a limited number of "open such and such in winamp" kind of actions (similar to other programs that do similar things with protocols e.g. emule, aim, itunes). The browser plugin is simply a means of making sure it's actually going to work before launching winamp://whatever in the browser. It really doesn't do anything else - no information transferred besides the installed version.

1. Click Start menu and select Control Panel.

2. Double click the Add or Remove Programs icon. The window will pop up and display the list of the programs you have installed on your computer.

3. Find Winamp Toolbar from the list and click Remove.

4. Click “Yes” to confirm the operation of uninstalling.

5. Then Winamp Toolbar will disappear from your computer.

Download the Winamp application and the Shoutcast Radio DSP plug-in (see References). The most recent version of Winamp is on the Winamp website. The Shoutcast Radio DSP plug-in can be downloaded at the Shoutcast website.
1
Open and install the DSP plug-in by following the installation wizard that follows opening the plug-in.
2
Open Winamp and access the "Preferences" menu.
3
From the "Preferences" menu, select "DSP/Effect." The DSP plug-in should appear in the right side of the Preferences menu. Select the DSP plug-in and configure the plug-in with the output settings that were given to you when you registered with the online streaming host.
4
Leave the DSP plug-in highlighted, and close the Preferences menu. Answered Dec, 08 2010
