Choose a PowerPoint Presentation

First open PowerPoint. Open an existing document to add your transitions to or you can start a new presentation. I am going to open an old presentation by going to 'File,' 'Open' and choosing my presentation.

Choose a Transition

Now go up to 'Slide Show' and select 'Slide Transition.' This will open up a sidebar on the right side. There is a list of different transitions. Click on a transition and it will be previewed for you on your selected slide.

To preview the same transition multiple times click the Play button at the bottom of the sidebar. I am going to choose 'Random Transition,' so a different transition will be used each time.

Adjust the PowerPoint Transition Speed

These are going by way too fast, so I am going to change the speed under 'Modify Transition.' I am going to adjust my speed to medium.

Add Transition Sounds

You can also choose to add sound when you change slides by choosing one from the drop down menu, but I find it distracting, so I'll keep it on no sound.

How to Advance the Slides

Next you can choose to advance the slides by selecting 'On Mouse Click' or 'Automatically After.' If you choose 'Automatically After,' you must enter the number of seconds or minutes before each slide changes. I am going to choose to transition slides by mouse click.

Apply the PowerPoint Transition

Now click Apply to All Slides. Click Slide Show to go through your presentation and you can see your transitions.

When you have your document open click on the "animation" tab you will see all the transition icons and if you hover over them they will show you what the transition looks like - scroll down through them until you see one that has a question mark on it - it is the "random transitions" one. Click on it then just to the right of it is an "apply to all" button.
