You can do it as the following steps:
If you have XP Pro,

Click on Start > Run > type gpedit.msc

See if the settings have been modified under the following:

User Configuration\ Administrative Templates\ Control Panel\ Display\ Screen Saver timeout

User Configuration\ Administrative Templates\ Control Panel\ Display\ Password protect the screen saver

  1. Open control-panel.
  2. Click on "Power Options"
  3. Click on link-lable "Require password on wake up"
  4. Configure plane according to your requirement.
