if you want to change your name, you can do follow it:

1Go to the Steam Community website and log in with your Steam Account Name. You will be taken to your Steam Community profile home page.

2Click the "View Profile" link located in the menu on the right side of the screen. This will give you all of your current Steam Community information, including your Steam Community ID.

3Confirm that you want to change your Steam Community ID name by clicking the "Edit my Profile" link from the menu on the right side of the screen. This will take you to a page where you can change all of your Steam Community information.

4Highlight your current name in the "Profile Name" text box and press the "Backspace" key on your keyboard to clear it. You can also type right over the current name.

5Type the new Steam Community ID name you would like to use in the "Profile Name" text box.

6Fill out any other information you would like to include on your public community account.

7Scroll down to the bottom of your profile page and click the "Save" button to confirm the changes to your profile. Your Steam Community ID name should now reflect the change you made in the "Profile Name" text box.

I'd like to change my account name as well. When I first signed up it was because of a game that I bought in the local store that required me to setup a steam account so I named the account some off the wall name that was related to the game in a way that I know, unfortunately, if I ever had to install steam on my alternate computers, I'd never actually remember what the name is (I know I should write it down somewhere but...). So I'd love to be able to actually change my username on my steam account.

I wait until the day they actually offer that. I'm sure if they took the proper precautions (maybe make people actually call in to verify it) they should be able to accomplish it. Answered Dec, 21 2010
