I had this exactly same problem (http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=88978). After trying to remove it by uninstalling "bittorrent toolbar" from control panel / add or remove programs, and in the end uninstalling bittorrent itself, I finally solved it by entering tools/add-ons on my firefox browser and removing it from there.

I think the bittorrent toolbar is annoying too. You can fully remove it by Final Uninstaller.
Download and install Final Uninstaller.
Run Final Uninstaller and click Scan .
It can find out the bittorrent toolbar.Remove it. Answered Feb, 07 2011

Go to "add-ons" in "Tools" on firefox
select "extensions" and look for "torrent bar" cklick on it and select "uninstall"
