Inserting the Degree Symbol
1
Turn computer on; allow it to boot up.
2
Click on the programs area of your desktop, choose Microsoft Office, and then choose Microsoft Word in the menu that pops up. You may have a desktop shortcut to Microsoft Word, if you do, just click on that to open the program.
3
At the top of the screen (depending on your version of Word) you will have either a tool bar that is text only or a tool bar with text and pictures. Either way, click on the "Insert" option on the tool bar. Then see "Symbols." In Office 2007, it is at the far right hand side at the top of the screen.
4
Click on "Symbol." If you click once, a miniature menu of options will pop up. If you see the degree symbol listed, click on it, and one will be put into your Word document at the place of your cursor. If you do not see the degree symbol, select "more symbol options". A window will appear. In the font field, make sure "(normal text)" is selected. In the subset field, use "Latin-1 Supplement".
5
Scroll through the symbols carefully until you see the degree symbol. If you click on it twice, a degree symbol will automatically be placed wherever your cursor is in your Word document. If you click on it once, it will become highlighted in blue, you can then hit the "Insert" button at the bottom of the screen. Answered Feb, 22 2011
