Solution

1. First, I will introduce the ordinary method.
2. Open the PowerPoint. Choose "Insert" > "Media Clips" > "Movie" > "Movie from file".
   
3. Select one file from your computer and then click "OK" to insert.
   
4. Choose "Automatically" or "When Clicked" way for showing.
   
5. Then the video will be inserted on the slide like this.
   
6. The next method will teach you to insert media with Windows Media Player program.
7. Click the O'ffice'  button, and then choose "PowerPoint Options".
   
8. In the PowerPoint Options window, choose "Popular". Then check "Show Developer tab in the Ribbon". Click "OK" to close.

Good idea about recording the screen and including it as a video. I could pause the video at different points.

Still seems weird that it's not possible to easily include any of the cool gadgets that are around, not even in the many web-based presentation tools...
