  •  Windows XP SP2 or before :
  1. Right Click in the desktop, select properties. In the Desktop tab, select Customize Desktop...

  1. Open a notepad, copy the following:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons]

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\ClassicStartMenu]
    "{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}"=dword:00000000

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel]
    "{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}"=dword:00000000


    copy the following to a notepad

  2. Save the file as Display IE.reg, the type is All Files.
