How to Freeze Panes to Lock Specific Rows or Columns in Excel 2010

1. First, you need to select the row below the rows that you want to keep visible when you scroll if you want to lock rows.
   
   
2. If you want to lock columns, select the column to the right of the column or columns that you want to keep visible when you scroll.
   
   
3. Moreover, to lock both rows and columns, click the cell below and to the right of the rows and columns that you want to keep visible when you scroll.
   
4. In the ribbon, click "View" > "Window" > "Freeze Panes".
   
5. Under "Freeze Panes", click "Freeze Panes", "Freeze Top Row", "Freeze First Column" as you need.
   
6. You will see the effect like this after you choose "Freeze Panes" to lock rows and columns.
   
7. To unlock rows and columns, go to "View" > "Windows" and click "Unfreeze Panes" under "Freeze Panes" command.
   
8. It will return to the normal view like this.
   

What's more, you can freeze rows at the top and columns on the left side of the worksheet only. You cannot freeze rows and columns in the middle of the worksheet.
