How to Manually Uninstall and Reinstall Microsoft Office 2007

Sometimes there could be multiple causes and reasons that cause user cannot uninstall Office 2007. If you use Add or Remove Programs (or Programs and Features) in Control Panel, it is useless. Solution

  1. First, you should remove any remaining Windows Installer packages of Microsoft Office 2007 system.
  2. Click "Start" > "Run" in the desktop.

  3. Type "installer" and click "OK".

  4. In the "View" menu, click "Deatails".

  5. Then choose "Choose Details" under the view.

  6. In the Choose Details dialog box, check "Subject". Type "340" for the width and click "OK".

  7. Choose "View" > "Arrange Icons by" > "Subject".

  8. You will see the files are arranged. And find each .msi file where the subject is Microsoft Office Product_Name 2007 like this.

  9. Right click on the file and choose "Uninstall".

  10. Second, stop the Office Source Engine service.
  11. Type services.msc in the run form and click "OK".

  12. In the services window, make sure that Office Source Engine service is not running. If this service is running, right-click Office Source Engine, and then click "Stop" .

  13. Third, remove any remaining 2007 Microsoft Office installation folders.
  14. Type "%CommonProgramFiles%\Microsoft Shared" in the run window and click "OK".

  15. Then delete Office12 and Source Engine folders in the following window.

  16. Type "%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office" in the form and click "OK".

  17. On the root folder of disk drive, open the MSOCache folder. If you cannot see the MSOCache folder, follow these steps.
  18. Click "Tools" > "Folder Options".

  19. Choose "View" in the Folder Options dialog box and uncheck Hide protected operating system files. Click "OK".

  20. Then find "MSOCahe" > "All User" folder. Delete every folder that has the following text in the folder name:0FF1CE)- as follows.

  21. Forth, remove any remaining 2007 Microsoft Office installation files
  22. Type "%appdata%\microsoft\templates", and then click "OK".

  23. Delete the following files: Normal.dotm and Normalemail.dotm.

  24. Type "%appdata%\microsoft\document building blocks\Language_ID" and click "OK".

  25. If you don't open, type "%appdata%\microsoft\document building blocks" in step 24, and then open the subfolder in that location. Here is 1033 folder.
  26. Delete the Building blocks.dotx file.

  27. In the run box, type "%temp%", and then click "OK".

  28. In the window, click "Edit" > "Select All".

  29. Choose "File" > "Delete" to delete all files.

  30. Type "%AllUsersprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Data", and then click "OK".

  31. Only delete "Opa12.dat" file in the folder.

  32. Fifth, remove the registry subkeys of the 2007 Microsoft Office system.
  33. Click "Start" > "Run" again, type regedit, and then click "OK".
  34. Go to this path : HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0.

  35. Click "File" > "Export".

  36. Type DeletedKey01 as the file name and click "Save".

  37. Then go to "Edit" > "Delete" in the menu.

  38. For each registry subkey in the following list, repeat steps 35 to 37. Change the name of the exported key by one for each subkey, eg. type DeletedKey02 for the second key, type DeletedKey03 for the third key, and so on.

    * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ose

  39. Then go to this path : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall.

  40. Click "File" > "Export".

  41. Type UninstallKey01, and then click "Save".

  42. Under the Uninstall subkey , click each subkey, and then determine whether the subkey has the following value : Name is UninstallString and Data is file_name path\Office Setup Controller\Setup.exe path just as follows.

  43. If the subkey contains the name and the data , delete them. Repeat step 40 to 42 until all these files are removed.
  44. Sixth, restart the computer. Then you  can now reinstall the 2007 Microsoft Office system if you want.


Tips

All the above steps are under Windows XP. However, in Windows 2003 version , it will be the same. But, there would be some differences in Windows Vista and 7 in details.
