How to Open Folder in New Process in Windows 7

Windows 7 opens folders in just one single explorer.exe process by default, you may want to run them in separate explorer.exe processes, so if one of them should close or crash, the others won't be affected by it.

Solution

  1. Right click on the folder with depressing Shift key, and then click on Open in New Process.

  2. If you want to open folders in separate process automatically,Folder Options. Open the Control panel first.

  3. Switch to Large icons view, click on the Folder options link.

  4. Click on View tab, check Launch folder windows in a separate process in Advanced settings, press OK to apply. Now the folders should always be open in separate processes. Uncheck the box to cancel this feature.
