How to Record macros in Excel

Microsoft Excel gives you a lot of ways to make building and using your spreadsheets a bit easier. One of the simplest tools is the macro.   1. Launch Microsoft Excel and open a workbook.

  2. Record a simple macro, which would apply the Italic formatting.
    Open a workbook, select the cell where you want to record a macro, and select View->Macros->Record Macro.

  3. Choose Personal Macro Workbook as the storage path, and type the name in the Macro name box. Click OK to quit the dialog box.

  4. To record the macro, turn to the Home tab, and click the Italic button. After those operations, click the record-stop button to stop recording.

    To stop recording, you also can select View-> Macros-> Stop Recording.

  5. Now we'll test the macro by typing some text in the cell and clicking the Macros icon to apply the macro to it.

Tips

  • Be slow and careful while entering the macro text.
  • Don't use common command keys (X, C, V, Z) for your macros.
  • Prevent accidentally executing other commands by always using SHIFT and CONTROL together for your macros.
