How to Remove Clicks in Audio Recording

When we recording vinyl records, especially making vinyl record, there are always clicks, so we have to remove these clicks without damaging the rest of the audio.

Solution

Here we will show you the way to remove clicks in audio recording using Goldwave.

  1. Download GoldWave Digital Audio Editor and install it.
  2. Import audio files by clicking File > Open. You should see a graphical wave representation of audio file. If your recording is on a cassette, record it to the computer by clicking the start and end recording icons.

  3. Click on the play button play audio to make sure the position of clicks.
  4. Select the area you want to reduce noise. simply left-click and drag a selection to encompass it. If you don’t select the right area the first time, you can adjust the Start and Finish markers by left-clicking them and dragging them to new locations.

  5. Choose Effect > Filter > Pop/Click... command. A pop/click filter is a specially designed filter that searches for abrupt changes in the sound and eliminates them.

  6. The Pop/Click dialog pops up. Start with a tolerance of 1000 or higher first. The Tolerance defines how abrupt a change can be before it is considered a click. It is best to start with a tolerance of 1000 or higher first. Lower values will detect more clicks. Values less than 500% should be used on a short selection only. After setting, click OK.

  7. Goldwave will take few seconds to remove clicks.

Tips

If some clicks still remain, select shorter sections of audio and use the Pop/Click filter again with a lower tolerance setting.
